About Department of Horticulture

The Department of Horticulture is one of several Departments that comprise Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The Department of Horticulture was established in 2018. Horticulture is one of several specializations offered to the students at the beginning of the 5th semester. The students continue their studies for six additional semesters in horticulture and related subjects to graduate with BS.C. Agriculture Honors (Horticulture).

 


The department teaching and Research Facilities include: 

The Department has a nursery for propagation and maintenance of ornamental plants and  fruit seedlings , it equipped  with over  head irrigation in addition  to two Protective houses. The Department owns five  feddans orchard used for demonstration and for  field training of the students.


Department Missions & Goals:-  

  •  To provide a firm foundation in science, skills and arts fundamental to horticulture.
  • To conduct and maintain effective and high quality teaching and research programs leading to B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph. D. degrees aiming at maximizing student potential through exposure to diverse courses and practical experiences.
  •  Through dedicated teaching, research and interaction with society, the Department seeks to improve its contributions to the general welfare.
  •  To conduct applied research to support and enhance the horticultural industries.
  • To provide services, training and technology transfer to the general public.
  • To identify and address the needs and problems related to the production of horticultural crops, their post-harvest quality, maintenance and utilization of their many products.
